King Magazine

Written by Cyrus Langhorne

Urban lifestyle publication King Magazine will be shutting its doors and will be releasing its final issue as a result of the current economic crisis.

The popular men’s magazine is known for featuring a variety of urban entertainers and video vixens.

KING is a bimonthly magazine of pure adrenaline that brings you the best of everything that is your lifestyle. We hit you with sexy women, fast cars, sports, real money and mad music. We bring you gadgets and games the hottest styles to wear and take you to exotic places worthy of a KING’s presence. (Magazine Agent)

Rumors of the publication’s end began to spread earlier this week.

We don’t often post rumors, despite the number of them that cross our desks daily (many of which end up being true). I felt like posting this one though. We just got word that KING Magazine (aka Butts and Rims) is closing shop, not even releasing it’s next issue. In this strained economy, the already dying print format is suffering big time. It is upsetting to hear of people losing jobs, but can this be considered a victory for women (in particular black women) who struggle against objectification at every turn? I have to admit, I enjoy the images, but I know it can’t really be good for raising the standards of our society. What do you think? (Okay Player) Read the rest of this entry »

Terror Squad leader Fat Joe recently discussed the United States’ economic crisis citing its impact on every hip-hop artist and their fans.

Along with the recession, Joey Crack also discussed 50 Cent‘s controversial footage of DJ Khaled‘s mother earlier this year.

“The recession has affected the whole entire globe,” Joe explained. “Anyone telling you the recession ain’t real is a liar. So the recession is too real, it’s affecting everybody, you know, if people ain’t got money how can they go to your show? If people ain’t got money, how can they buy your record? Another way that it’s affecting me is a lot of my friends are being laid off. They’re coming to me like, ‘Joe I’m messed up, what can I do’ I try to help but I can’t help the whole world…It really upsets me to know that so many of my friends are doing so bad during these times as well…In hip-hop, where do we draw the line…Notice he hasn’t had a fight with nobody yet in every beef he’s had in the universe. Disrespecting DJ Khaled’s mom, that’s not hip-hop. I haven’t heard anybody that thought it was dope.” (Wild 101.1) Read the rest of this entry »

Mobb Deep‘s Havoc recently revealed his issues with E1 Music (Koch Records) and Nature Sounds and why he’s decided to part ways with the independent labels.

The rapper/producer broke down the difficulties he had working with both indie labels.

“One company is the same as the next basically you have to stay on top of them to make sure they do their thing,” Hav explained in an interview. “Right now I am loking for distribution for my own company somewhere I can call home to bring my artists to…those [Nature and Koch] deals are over with. It is time to move on. All of that was a learning process and you never make the same mistake twice.” (Hip Hop DX) Read the rest of this entry »

Incarcerated rapper Prodigy has reportedly sued a record company for breach of contract for $30,000, which P says is at the heart of his family’s financial woes.

P claims the missed payments have also impacted the rapper’s family.

Prodigy holds the company responsible for plunging his family into foreclosure. He says the Vox Music Group agreed in August 2007 to pay him $10,300 a month but that it has missed three payments and failed to give him a semiannual royalty accounting statement. “These breaches…have put Prodigy’s family in financial peril,” say documents filed last Monday (March 23) in Manhattan Supreme Court. Aside from the Dipset reunion, Juelz also discussed his upcoming project with Lil Wayne.

“I’m with whatever man,” he said regarding a reunion with Dipset leader Cam’ron. “I’m good. I can do me now so it ain’t like if we was to do an album together, I can handle my business the way I wanna handle my business so I’m cool with anything. Ya dig? He ain’t physically harm me, he ain’t do nothing to me in that sense. Now I’m out, I’m free, I ain’t got time to dwell on that bullsh*t…The album [with Wayne] is done. We got over like 45 records done, we was just waiting, like I said, even with the situation that I was in, that was kinda like affecting that from going down too.
